Grasping Math Basics is the product of more than thirty years of refining teaching methods in math to find the strategies that are most effective for teaching in ways that produce success and understanding. These methods work with all kinds of learners.

About Susan Raybuck
Susan Raybuck retired in 2011 after 31 years as a regular education teacher and later a special educator with experience in a variety of classroom settings.
Yet 15 years after retirement a niggling sense that she had something important to share remained and wouldn't let go.
Grasping Math Basics is the result of that feeling, that others should know of the teaching approaches that she found were the most successful for the most varied types of learners, ranging from dyslexic or learning disabled students through average and gifted learners.
The author and creator of Grasping Math Basics provides a Creative Commons unlimited license for use of all concepts, strategies, and materials on this website with the exception of the section on Subitizing. Information and content for subitizing was created by outside sources and therefore is subject to whatever copyright or license the creator has granted.
The concept of subitizing was described because it is not widely known but is highly effective in developing number sense and mathematical reasoning in students.
No attribution is required for the strategies and materials created by Mrs. Raybuck.
